This firetruck was built by the Seagrave Corporation in June and July of 1946. It had a completion date of July 2, 1946 and began service on July 25, 1946.
The engine was built for the town of West Haven, Connecticut. After many years of service, it was eventually sold to the Woodmont V.F.D. in West Haven, Connecticut where it was primarily used for parades and musters.
The Woodmont V.F.D. was eventually replaced by a full time department. Due to the decline in membership, the V.F.D. decided to sell the truck and concentrate on the restoration of their other parade vehicle, a Maxim.
In October of 1996, a trip was taken to view this truck. After hours of checking the truck over and a wonderful drive through the town, the truck was purchased. Getting it home would be a separate problem.
The firetruck was loaded onto a 45 foot flatbed semi trailer to be delivered back to Pennsylvania. At 8:00 am, the truck arrived at its destination to be unloaded. This process was not as simple as it was thought to be. The unloading area was an embankment at a friends home, who also has a trucking business. The semi bringing the firetruck was not able to get into this area as well and therefore left a gap between the trailer and the embankment. A series of boards were put in place to make ramps to drive the truck onto.
Eventually the truck made it off the trailer and was safely driven to its new home.
