Repairing my '68 Gladiator

I want this truck to be ready for the winter, but I noticed that when it rained, I had a rather large puddle of water gathering on my floor. I knew this would prove be a problem during the winter since we have a tendency to get snow and rain most of the time. The water was coming in from the fresh air box in front of the windshield and then running down the interior of the firewall and onto the floor. I didn't see this as a problem since it appeared that the area I wanted to fix was directly behind the front fenders.

As you can see, up there in the corner
is a bad little piece of rust. My thoughts
are to dig the rust out and then hopefully
be able to use DuraGlass filler to reconstruct
the walls.

It turns out that even after removing the front clip, I could not access the areas I wanted to fix. The rust would have to be repaired from the interior of the cab and hopefully I will not need to do this again.

After removing the front clip, there became a much more noticeable problem with rust. The drivers side wheel well had some damage near the rear as did the passenger side. I plan to remove the bad metal and replace it with fresh pieces and MIG weld them into place. I am also using a heavier gauge steel than the factory so it will last longer.

I also took out the bench seat to have a tear repaired and to have some springs replaced that were broken. While in that area, I am going to fix the holes in the floor that were patched (very poorly) by the previous owner.

Hopefully I will have this done in a few weeks so I can get my Christmas shopping done in my Jeep. If anyone has done these repairs before and has tips, please mail me at
